After having a chemo port surgery your body needs a good amount of sleep to recover.

How to sleep with a chemo port. For example, steroids, like dexamethasone, may be prescribed to control nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy and can also make you feel energized (and cause difficulty sleeping). It may also be called a central venous access device (cvad). You can put medicine on it to numb it before chemo but i never have and it dosn't hurt. An implanted port is a type of central venous catheter, or central venous line, that is used to put medicine, blood, nutrients, or fluids directly into your blood.

A port also called a porta cath is a plastic tube permanently (as long as you need it) inserted so chemo can be given instead of having to find a vein. A port is also less likely than an iv to leak medicine that can damage your skin and other tissues. Just trying to get ready for my first visit with the hematology oncologist tomorrow.

The day before i started 16 cycles of chemo over 20 weeks, an interventional radiologist implanted a power port on the left side of my upper chest during an outpatient procedure. Over time, it did get easier. It took a while for me to be able to sleep on the side with my port.

At this time it is hard to sleep comfortably which can lead to slow recovery and bad mood throughout the day. After getting your chemo port placed it will be painful to sleep on the side or stomach. I had excellent veins before i started chemo.
